Toynol® ADS-20 Grinding Dispersant for Waterborne Systems

Toynol® ADS-20 High-Performance Waterborne Grinding Dispersant

Abstract

Toynol ADS-20 is a high-performance nonionic dispersant developed to solve powder dispersion problems in waterborne systems, such as the agglomeration, re-coarsening, and flocculation of powders including cerium oxide and carbon black. Its main functions are rapid powder dispersion, sustained flocculation control, and effective reduction of system viscosity. Compared with conventional approaches, it offers high dispersion efficiency (for example, adding 5.7% disperses cerium oxide powder to a fineness of ≤2.5 μm) and is environmentally friendly and safe (APEO-free and compliant with environmental regulations), making it a suitable option for waterborne industrial coatings, automotive coatings, and printing inks.

Core Product Information

Main Features and Advantages

  • High efficiency: A small addition achieves rapid dispersion. For example, in a cerium oxide polishing powder system, adding 5.7% dispersant reaches a fineness of ≤2.5 μm within 30 minutes.
  • Stability: Stable performance under strong acid, strong alkali, and high-temperature conditions, with minimal viscosity change after storage.
  • Environmental friendliness: APEO-free and formaldehyde-free, compliant with EU environmental regulations.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Low use concentration and high cost-performance, effectively reducing overall customer cost.

Recommended Application Fields

  • Waterborne industrial coatings: Used in architectural and metal industrial coatings to disperse pigments and fillers such as titanium dioxide and carbon black, improving coating uniformity, gloss, and durability; suitable for outdoor anticorrosive coatings.
  • Automotive coatings: Disperses polishing powders such as cerium oxide or pigments during automotive finishing, ensuring color consistency and surface smoothness and enhancing scratch resistance.
  • Waterborne printing inks: Disperses organic pigments in printing ink systems, improving ink flow and color development and suitable for high-speed printing processes.
  • Color concentrates: In color concentrate preparation, disperses high-color carbon black or titanium dioxide, preventing agglomeration and improving concentrate stability and color development.
  • Leather coatings: Used in leather finishing agents to disperse pigments and fillers, enhancing coating flexibility and appearance.
  • Powder modification: In powder processing such as cerium oxide polishing powder modification, improves powder flow and prevents caking.

Usage and Recommended Dosage

Addition timing: It is recommended to add the dispersant to water before adding the resin and pigments.

Dilution: This product generally requires no dilution and can be used directly. If pre-dilution is needed, mix with water at room temperature at a 1:1 ratio.

Recommended dosage: Generally based on pigment solids content, as follows:

  • Cerium oxide polishing powder: 25-30%
  • Titanium dioxide: 3-7%
  • Carbon black: 80-150%
  • Other powders: 5-50%

The actual dosage should be determined through dosage screening based on site conditions.

Safety and Storage

  • Safety precautions: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. If the product contacts the skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water; if it enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
  • Storage conditions: Store sealed in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place, away from heat, sparks and open flames. Recommended storage temperature range: 5 °C to 40 °C. The product may solidify at low temperatures; warming and stirring will restore it to its original state.
  • Packaging: 25 kg drums, 200 kg drums.
  • Shelf life: Under the specified storage conditions, the shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Toynol ADS-20 suitable for all types of waterborne systems?

A: Yes, this product is designed specifically for waterborne systems and is compatible with most resins, pigments, and fillers; however, small-scale testing is recommended before use to confirm compatibility.

Q: For high-color carbon black, how is the optimum dosage determined?

A: Start from the lower end of the recommended range (e.g., 80%) and adjust through dosage screening. Carbon black is relatively difficult to disperse and may require a higher dosage; our technical support can provide free samples and guidance.

Q: Does high-temperature storage affect product performance?

A: The product maintains good storage stability below 40 °C. If briefly exposed to higher temperatures, check the appearance before use; performance is generally unaffected.

Q: Can it be used together with anionic additives?

A: Yes, this product is compatible with anionic and nonionic additives, but testing is recommended before mixing to avoid flocculation.
