Main Properties: White orthorhombic and monoclinic crystals, melting point 170-172 °C, boiling point above 360 °C. Slightly soluble in water, readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. A polycyclic aromatic heterocyclic compound formed by fusion of a benzene ring and an imidazole ring; weakly basic.
Main Applications:
- Pharmaceutical intermediate: An important structural unit in various drugs and vitamin B12; used to synthesize antiparasitic and antiulcer drugs.
- Pesticide intermediate: Used to synthesize fungicides, insecticides and other agrochemicals.
- Chemical intermediate: Used to prepare high-performance materials such as polybenzimidazole (PBI), and metal-ion coordination reagents.
