Vanconol® CPI-42 Water-Soluble Copper Corrosion Inhibitor
Vanconol® CPI-42 Corrosion Inhibitor
🎯Abstract
Vanconol® CPI-42 corrosion inhibitor is a new-generation high-efficiency water-soluble metal corrosion inhibitor developed through advanced molecular design, modifying the classic copper corrosion inhibitor benzotriazole (BTA) with diethanolamine. It effectively resolves the limitations of traditional BTA, including poor water solubility and handling inconvenience, while forming a dense and firmly adsorbed protective film on metal surfaces. It provides excellent corrosion protection for multi-metal systems across industrial water treatment, metalworking, and other applications, with broad operating condition compatibility and favorable environmental profile.

Application |
Use Scenarios & Performance Description |
|
Industrial Recirculating Cooling Water Systems |
Serves as the primary corrosion inhibitor in open or closed recirculating cooling water systems in metallurgy, petrochemical, power generation, and other industries, protecting copper tubes, piping, and fittings in heat exchangers. Its excellent water solubility ensures rapid and uniform distribution of the product. |
|
Automotive Antifreeze & Engine Coolants |
Acts as a key corrosion-inhibiting component, effectively preventing electrochemical corrosion and pitting corrosion of brazed copper joints, brass radiators, and other components in automotive cooling systems, extending system service life. |
|
Metalworking Fluids & Lubricants |
Used as a high-efficiency corrosion-inhibiting additive in cutting oils, drilling fluids, hydraulic oils, and other industrial lubricants to protect processing equipment and workpieces from rust and corrosion. |
|
Other Applications |
Can be used in boiler water treatment systems, in formulations for acid gas treatment processes (e.g., H₂S and CO₂ removal), and as an intermediate in surfactant synthesis. |
Use Instructions & Recommended Dosage
Dosing Method: This product is a water-soluble liquid and can be added directly to the system or diluted and fed continuously and precisely via a metering pump.
Initial Concentration (Pre-filming Treatment): For new systems or cleaned systems without pre-filming, an initial dosage of 50 – 100 mg/L (as product) is recommended, with recirculation for 24-48 hours to establish a complete and dense protective film.
Maintenance Concentration: During normal operation, maintain the product concentration in water at 2 – 10 mg/L (as active matter). The optimal dosage should be determined through testing based on specific water quality parameters (pH, hardness, chloride content), temperature, and concentration cycles.
Compatibility: This product is compatible with most commonly used scale inhibitors, dispersants, and biocides/algicides. However, compatibility testing is recommended before formulating combined products to ensure no precipitation occurs.
⚠️ Safety & Storage
Packaging: 25 kg and 200 kg plastic drums, or customized packaging upon request.
Storage: Store sealed in a cool, ventilated, and dry place, away from direct sunlight. This product is hygroscopic; reseal promptly after opening.
Shelf Life: 12 months.
Safety Precautions: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as protective gloves and safety goggles, when handling. In case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with soap and water; in case of eye contact, flush with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention promptly. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed safety information.
❓ FAQ
Q: What are the key advantages of this product compared to traditional BTA?
A: The primary advantage is its excellent water solubility, allowing direct dosing without the need for organic solvents or strong alkali dissolution; it also offers higher corrosion inhibition efficiency, protection for multiple metals, a broader pH range, and improved environmental safety.
Q: How is the optimal dosage determined?
A: The initial pre-filming concentration is recommended at 50 – 100 mg/L (as product), with a maintenance concentration of 2 – 10 mg/L (as active matter) during normal operation. Final optimal dosage should be determined through testing considering actual water quality, temperature, concentration cycles, and other factors.
Q: What other chemicals can this product be formulated with?
A: It is compatible with most commonly used scale inhibitors, dispersants, and biocides/algicides. However, compatibility testing is recommended before formulating to ensure no precipitation occurs.
Q: How should partially used product be handled after opening?
A: This product is hygroscopic. After opening, reseal promptly and store under the specified conditions to avoid performance degradation. Use within the stated shelf life.
