Toynol® DF-110B Gemini-Type Nonionic Defoamer
Toynol® DF-110B High-Efficiency Acetylenic Diol Gemini Nonionic Defoamer
Abstract
Toynol® DF-110B is a nonionic, gemini-structure defoamer developed to solve foam problems in waterborne industrial coatings, printing inks, adhesives and other systems caused by surfactants and process mixing. Its key functions are rapid foam knockdown and long-lasting foam suppression, with excellent compatibility for effective micro-foam removal and reduced defects such as pinholes and craters. Compared with conventional silicone-based and mineral-oil-based defoamers, it offers better compatibility, no cratering risk and high cost-effectiveness, with a low use level (0.1%-0.8%), making it a suitable option for improving the final appearance and application performance of waterborne industrial products.

Main Features and Advantages
- High efficiency: The unique gemini structure rapidly lowers the system surface tension, achieving rapid foam knockdown and long-lasting foam suppression within the recommended dosage (0.1%-0.8%).
- Compatibility: Nonionic and highly compatible with waterborne coatings, inks and adhesives, effectively solving the incompatibility issues that silicone- and mineral-oil-based defoamers may cause.
- Stability: Good storage stability, storable long-term at ambient temperature. If it solidifies at low temperature, performance is unchanged after heating and melting.
- Cost-effectiveness: High active matter and wide dosage range; a small addition achieves the desired effect, effectively reducing overall customer cost.
Recommended Application Fields
- Waterborne industrial coatings: Spray, roller and dip coating of acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane systems, effectively preventing bubbles during application and helping reduce pinholes and craters.
- Electrocoatings: For cathodic or anodic electrocoat baths, controlling foam during electrodeposition to ensure coating uniformity and integrity.
- Coolants: Controls foam generation during photovoltaic silicon wafer cutting, improving slicing efficiency.
- Waterborne inks and varnishes: Suitable for flexographic and gravure printing inks and overprint varnishes, preventing white spots and pinholes during printing and improving print quality.
- Adhesives: Foam suppression during production and coating of emulsion acrylic adhesives and waterborne pressure-sensitive adhesives to ensure a smooth adhesive film.
- Industrial coolants: Added to waterborne metalworking fluids to suppress foam generated by agitation during recirculation.
- Other fields: Also used for foam control in leather finishing agents, paper coatings, fountain solutions, and dye and pigment synthesis.
Usage and Recommended Dosage
Addition timing: Add after other surfactants and polymers and before pigments and fillers, to help wet the solids and suppress stirring-induced foaming.
Dilution: Generally added directly; consult our technical support if pre-dilution is needed.
Recommended dosage: Refer to the table below; the specific dosage should be determined by dosage screening based on actual conditions.
| Application | Recommended dosage (by total formulation) | Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Waterborne industrial coatings | 0.1% – 0.3% | Dosage screening required |
| Electrocoatings | 0.1% – 0.8% | Dosage screening required |
| Waterborne inks and varnishes | 0.1% – 0.8% | Dosage screening required |
| Other fields | 0.1% – 0.8% | Dosage screening required |
Safety and Storage
- Safety notes: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and soap; in case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
- Storage: Store sealed in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place, away from heat, sparks and open flames. Recommended storage temperature is ambient temperature.
- Packaging: 25 kg drums, 180 kg drums.
- Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
- Transport category: (compliant with GB/T 190-2009).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can Toynol® DF-110B be used in high-gloss clearcoat systems with very stringent compatibility requirements?
A: Yes. DF-110B is a nonionic defoamer with excellent compatibility, designed specifically to address the cratering issues common with conventional defoamers. For extremely demanding systems, we strongly recommend a small-scale dosage screening first to confirm the optimal addition level and effect.
Q: If the product solidifies or crystallizes during winter storage, does it mean the product has failed?
A: No. Due to its nature, it may solidify or crystallize at low temperature, which is a physical phenomenon. Simply move it to a warm environment (e.g., >15 °C) or heat until fully melted, then stir thoroughly; the product’s performance is unaffected.
Q: Is there a synergistic effect when used together with acetylenic diol wetting agents (e.g., Toynol® FS-204E)?
A: Yes. DF-110B has good synergy with wetting agents of similar chemical structure. Combined use provides excellent wetting and leveling while controlling foam more efficiently, often achieving a 1+1>2 effect. Consult our technical support for specific combination schemes.
Q: What is the main advantage of Toynol® DF-80D compared with silicone defoamers?
A: Its main advantage is excellent compatibility. Conventional silicone defoamers can cause film cratering due to compatibility issues, whereas DF-80D, as a nonionic gemini-structure defoamer, effectively avoids this risk while maintaining excellent defoaming and foam-suppression performance, especially suitable for appearance-critical applications.
