Toynol® DF-80D Defoamer

Toynol® DF-80D High-Efficiency Acetylenic Diol Gemini Nonionic Defoamer

Abstract

Toynol® DF-80D is a nonionic gemini-structure defoamer developed to solve surface defects such as pinholes, craters and white spots caused by persistent foam in waterborne industrial systems (such as coatings, printing inks and adhesives). Its key functions are rapid foam knockdown, long-lasting foam suppression and efficient micro-foam removal. Compared with conventional silicone-based and mineral-oil-based defoamers, it offers better compatibility, no cratering risk and high cost-effectiveness, making it a suitable option for the production and application of high-performance waterborne industrial coatings, electrocoatings, waterborne inks and adhesives.

Main Features and Advantages

  • High efficiency: Combines rapid defoaming with long-lasting foam suppression, effectively solving foam generated during reaction and application.
  • Compatibility: The unique acetylenic diol nonionic gemini structure offers excellent compatibility with waterborne systems, helping reduce coating surface defects caused by the defoamer.
  • Broad applicability: Suitable for waterborne industrial coatings, electrocoatings, printing inks, adhesives and many other fields, solving foam caused by various surfactants.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Low use level (usually 0.1%-0.8%) and high value, effectively reducing overall customer cost.

Recommended Application Fields

  • Waterborne industrial coatings: Metal protective coatings, automotive coatings, wood coatings and other acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane systems, effectively preventing bubbles during spraying and brushing and helping reduce pinholes and craters.
  • Coolants: Controls foam generation during photovoltaic silicon wafer cutting, improving slicing efficiency.
  • Electrocoatings: For cathodic or anodic electrodeposition bath systems, controlling foam during electrodeposition to ensure coating uniformity.
  • Waterborne inks and varnishes: Suitable for flexographic and gravure printing inks and overprint varnishes, eliminating foam during printing and helping reduce defects such as white spots and ink skipping.
  • Adhesives: Foam suppression during production and coating of acrylic and polyurethane waterborne adhesives to prevent bubbles from affecting bond strength and appearance.
  • Other fields: Paper coatings, leather finishing agents, fountain solutions, and foam control during dye and pigment synthesis.

Usage and Recommended Dosage

Addition timing: Add before pigments, fillers and other solid materials to suppress stirring-induced foaming, and after other surfactants and polymers are added to ensure uniform dispersion.

Dilution: This product can usually be added directly; if pre-dilution is needed for uniform dispersion, a suitable solvent may be used.

Recommended dosage: Refer to the table below; the specific dosage should be determined by dosage screening based on actual conditions.

Application Basis of calculation Recommended dosage
Waterborne industrial coatings Total formulation 0.1% – 0.3%
Electrocoatings Total formulation 0.1% – 0.8%
Coolants Total formulation 0.3% – 0.8%
Waterborne inks and varnishes Total formulation 0.1% – 0.8%
Other fields Total formulation 0.1% – 0.8%

Safety and Storage

  • Safety notes: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and soap; in case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
  • Storage: Store sealed in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place, away from heat, sparks and open flames. Recommended storage temperature is ambient temperature.
  • Packaging: 25 kg drums, 180 kg drums.
  • Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
  • Special note: This product may solidify or crystallize during low-temperature transport and storage. Heat to room temperature and stir thoroughly to restore it; this does not affect performance.
  • Transport category: (compliant with GB/T 190-2009).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the main advantage of Toynol® DF-80D compared with silicone defoamers?

A: Its main advantage is excellent compatibility. Conventional silicone defoamers can cause film cratering due to compatibility issues, whereas DF-80D, as a nonionic gemini-structure defoamer, effectively avoids this risk while maintaining excellent defoaming and foam-suppression performance, especially suitable for appearance-critical applications.

Q: If my system already contains a large amount of micro-foam, is DF-80D effective?

A: Yes. A notable feature of DF-80D is its good defoaming capability, effectively eliminating fine foam in the system and solving problems such as uneven gloss and surface defects caused by micro-foam.

Q: After the product solidifies, how do I properly restore it for use?

A: Due to its nature, the product may solidify or crystallize at low temperature. This is a physical phenomenon and does not affect quality. Leave the sealed product in a warm environment (e.g., >15 °C), or heat in a warm water bath until fully melted into a clear liquid, then stir thoroughly before use; performance is unchanged.
