Toynol® Foamic-024 Defoamer
Toynol® Foamic 024 High-Efficiency Waterborne Molecular Defoamer
Abstract
Toynol® Foamic 024 is a nonionic organic-polymer defoamer developed to solve persistent foam and micro-foam problems in waterborne industrial systems (such as coatings, printing inks and adhesives). Its key functions are rapid foam knockdown, long-lasting foam suppression and effective removal of micro-foam that is difficult to see. Compared with conventional silicone-containing defoamers, its core advantage is that it is free of silicone, mineral oil and APEO, does not cause cratering or pinholes, and offers excellent cost-effectiveness. It is especially suitable for waterborne industrial coatings, inks and adhesives with stringent surface appearance requirements.
Core Product Information
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Product Model | Foamic 024 |
| Generic chemical name | Mixture of organic polymer, high-carbon ketone and acetylenic alcohol defoamers |
| Appearance (25 °C) | Light yellow to yellow liquid |

Main Features and Advantages
- High-efficiency defoaming and foam suppression: A trace addition removes foam within 30 seconds and sustains foam suppression for more than 30 minutes.
- Silicone- and oil-free formulation: Contains no silicone or mineral oil, fundamentally eliminating the risk of surface defects such as cratering and fisheyes caused by the defoamer.
- Targeted removal of persistent foam: Contains hydrophobic particles, highly effective against persistent foam from anionic and nonionic surfactants.
- Environmentally safe: APEO-free and compliant with environmental regulations, suitable for export products with environmental requirements.
- High cost-effectiveness: Low use level (0.2%-1.0%) helps reduce overall customer cost at comparable performance.
Recommended Application Fields
- Waterborne industrial coatings: Suitable for automotive coatings, industrial equipment coatings, wood coatings, etc., solving craters and pinholes caused by bubbles during spraying and roller coating.
- Waterborne inks and varnishes: Used in plastic printing, paper printing and packaging inks to eliminate foam during printing and help reduce white spots and ink skipping in prints.
- Adhesives and sealants: Suitable for waterborne acrylic adhesives, PU dispersions, etc., preventing pinholes from foam during coating and ensuring a smooth bonding surface.
- Paper coatings: Used in surface coating of coated paper and cardboard to improve coating uniformity.
- Emulsion polymerization: As a post-added defoamer in styrene-acrylic and pure-acrylic emulsion synthesis to control reaction foam.
- Textile processing: Used in textile sizes and coating finishing agents to prevent foam from affecting processing quality.
- Metalworking fluids: Used in waterborne cutting fluids and grinding fluids to eliminate foam during use.
- Industrial water treatment: Foam control in circulating water systems and wastewater treatment.
Usage and Recommended Dosage
Addition timing: Can be added at the batching stage or after grinding in the production of coatings, inks and adhesives; adding during the high-speed dispersion stage is recommended to ensure uniform dispersion.
Dilution: Dilution is not recommended; add the product as-is for the best defoaming effect. If it separates or solidifies, heat to room temperature and stir well before use.
Recommended dosage:
The specific optimal dosage should be determined by dosage screening based on the actual system.
| Application | Recommended dosage (of total formulation) |
|---|---|
| Waterborne industrial coatings | 0.2% – 1.0% |
| Waterborne inks and varnishes | 0.2% – 1.0% |
| Adhesives and other fields | 0.2% – 1.0% |
Safety and Storage
- Safety notes: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and soap; in case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
- Storage: Store sealed in a cool, well-ventilated, dry warehouse (recommended storage temperature 5 °C-40 °C), away from heat, sparks and open flames. Transport and store as a Class C chemical.
- Packaging: 10 kg drums.
- Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can Toynol® Foamic 024 be used in clearcoat systems with very high gloss requirements?
A: Yes. This product has a silicone- and oil-free formulation with good system compatibility, so it does not cause cratering or affect film gloss, making it a suitable option for high-end clearcoat systems.
Q: If the defoamer solidifies or separates, does it mean the product has failed?
A: No. This product may solidify or separate at low temperature, which is a physical phenomenon. Simply move it to room temperature (or heat to ≤40 °C) and stir until uniform; its defoaming performance is fully restored and remains usable.
Q: How do I quickly determine the optimal addition level in my formulation?
A: We recommend starting from the lower end of the recommended range (e.g., 0.2%) and running a dosage screening. For example, test at 0.2%, 0.5% and 0.8%, and determine the optimal by observing defoaming speed and film appearance. Our technical support team can provide free samples and experimental guidance.
