Toynol® FS-660 Acetylenic Diol Polyether
Toynol® FS-660 Acetylenic Diol Polyether High-Efficiency Low-Foam Wetting Agent
Abstract
Toynol® FS-660 is a nonionic surfactant based on an acetylenic diol polyether structure, developed to address core issues in waterborne systems (such as industrial coatings, photovoltaic coolants, and inkjet inks), including poor dynamic wetting, poor compatibility, and inadequate leveling. Its gemini structure simultaneously lowers both static and dynamic surface tension while providing excellent water solubility and system compatibility. Compared with conventional wetting agents, its key advantages are good water solubility, suitability for pure-water systems, non-foaming behavior, and APEO-free, environmentally safe composition, making it a suitable option for modern industrial applications that demand high performance and sustainability. It is especially recommended for resin-emulsion-free systems such as inkjet inks, industrial cleaning, and surface treatment.

Main Features and Advantages
- Efficient wetting: Its unique gemini structure rapidly lowers both dynamic and static surface tension of waterborne systems, effectively preventing cratering and improving substrate wetting.
- Excellent compatibility: Shows good compatibility in both resin-emulsion systems and pure-water systems, avoiding instability caused by compatibility issues.
- Promotes leveling: Helps coating and ink systems achieve better flow and leveling, enhancing the appearance of the final product.
- Environmentally friendly and safe: The product is APEO-free and complies with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
- High cost-effectiveness: Effective at low dosages, helping customers optimize overall costs.
Recommended Application Fields
- Waterborne industrial coatings: Used to improve wetting of metal, plastic, and other substrates; resolves cratering, fisheyes, and poor leveling during coating; suitable for primers, topcoats, and various other systems.
- Photovoltaic coolant: As a key wetting component, ensures the coolant spreads rapidly on the wafer surface, improves heat-transfer efficiency, and maintains compatibility with other components.
- Inkjet inks and writing inks: Improves wetting and flow of the ink inside the printhead, reducing the risk of ink skipping; improves ink-flow uniformity of writing inks.
- Industrial cleaners: Enhances the penetration and wetting of the cleaner on oil and grease, improving degreasing and cleaning performance.
- Fountain solution: As a component of fountain solutions for newspaper and offset printing, effectively controls water surface tension to ensure print quality.
Usage and Recommended Dosage
- Addition sequence: Add after the other surfactants and polymers to ensure full dissolution or dispersion, and preferably before adding solid materials such as pigments and fillers to aid wetting of solids and suppress foam.
- Dilution: Depending on process needs, it can be pre-diluted with water; stir continuously for 15-30 minutes to ensure uniform mixing. If the viscosity rises, gentle heating may be applied.
- Recommended dosage: The following are general recommendations; the specific dosage should be determined by a dose-response study.
Application — Recommended dosage (based on total formulation)
Fountain solution — 0.5% – 3%
Photovoltaic coolant — 3% – 5%
Inkjet inks — 0.5% – 2%
Cleaners and other fields — 0.3% – 1%
Safety and Storage
- Safety note: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. On skin contact, rinse with water and soap; if it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
- Storage conditions: Store sealed in a cool, ventilated, dry place, away from heat, sparks and open flames. Recommended storage temperature is room temperature.
- Special note: During low-temperature transport and storage, the product may solidify or crystallize; warming to room temperature with thorough stirring restores it to its original state without affecting performance.
- Packaging: 25 kg drums, 200 kg drums, 1000 kg drums.
- Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
- Transport classification: (Compliant with GB/T 190-2009).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Toynol FS-660 stable in acidic or alkaline systems?
A: Yes. As a nonionic surfactant, Toynol FS-660 maintains excellent chemical stability and performance over a wide pH range (from acidic to alkaline), making it suitable for a variety of demanding industrial environments.
Q: Will this wetting agent affect the foaming behavior of the system?
A: Toynol FS-660 is not a strong defoamer, but it has some foam-suppression ability. At recommended dosages it wets effectively without generating excessive foam. If the system foams readily, we recommend combining it with a compatible defoamer.
Q: What should I do if the product solidifies or crystallizes?
A: This is a physical phenomenon at low temperature, not product deterioration. Simply move the sealed package to a warm environment (e.g., room temperature) or warm it indirectly in a warm-water bath until fully melted, then stir until homogeneous; performance is unaffected.
Q: How do I determine the optimal dosage for a new formulation?
A: We strongly recommend a dose-response study. Start from the lower end of the recommended range (e.g., 0.3%), increase the dosage stepwise, and observe changes in wetting, compatibility, and leveling to identify the most cost-effective dosage.
