Toynol® FS-680 Acetylenic Diol Polyether
Toynol® FS-680 Acetylenic Diol Polyether Emulsifying Wetting Agent
Abstract
Toynol® FS-680 is a nonionic surfactant based on an acetylenic diol polyether structure, developed to address core issues such as poor wetting, insufficient emulsifying power, and poor compatibility in waterborne systems including industrial cleaning, metalworking fluids, and surface treatment agents. Its main functions are to efficiently lower dynamic and static surface tension, provide excellent wetting and emulsifying capability, and withstand high-temperature environments exceeding 100 °C. Compared with conventional solutions, it offers good water solubility, strong compatibility, and APEO-free environmental safety, along with outstanding cost-effectiveness, making it a suitable option for improving the performance of waterborne formulations.

Main Features and Advantages
- Efficient wetting: Markedly lowers the dynamic and static surface tension of waterborne systems, providing fast, lasting wetting and promoting flow and leveling.
- Excellent stability: Good water solubility and strong compatibility with a wide range of systems; the high cloud point ensures stable performance at elevated temperatures.
- Environmentally friendly and safe: APEO-free and compliant with environmental regulations.
- Multiple functions: Also offers good emulsifying capability, helping resolve application challenges such as degreasing, cleaning, and emulsification.
- Economical and practical: Excellent overall performance over a wide use-concentration range, with strong cost-effectiveness.
Recommended Application Fields
- Industrial cleaning: Especially suited to applications requiring efficient degreasing, soil removal, and cleaning, such as machinery cleaning, electronic component cleaning, and vehicle cleaner formulations.
- Metalworking fluids: Used in emulsifiable, semi-synthetic, and synthetic metalworking fluids as a wetting and emulsifying component to improve lubrication, cooling, and rust-preventive performance.
- Surface treatment agents: Applied in coatings, printing inks, adhesives, and related fields to improve spreading and adhesion on substrates and prevent defects such as cratering.
- Other fields: Can serve as a general-purpose wetting agent in agrochemical, textile, papermaking, and other waterborne systems requiring optimized surface activity.
Usage and Recommended Dosage
- Addition sequence: Add after the other surfactants and polymers and before solid materials such as pigments and fillers, to aid thorough wetting and dispersion.
- Dilution: It can usually be added directly. If pre-dilution is required, choose a suitable solvent based on the actual situation and follow the recommended ratio.
- Recommended dosage: Based on the total formulation, the generally recommended dosage is 0.3%-3.0%. Application-specific recommendations are as follows, but the optimal dosage should be determined by a dose-response study:
Industrial cleaning: 0.5% – 2.0%
Metalworking fluids: 0.5% – 2.0%
Other fields: 0.3% – 3.0%
- Uniform mixing: After addition, stir continuously for 15-30 minutes to ensure uniform mixing. If the viscosity rises, gentle heating can promote dissolution and dispersion.
Safety and Storage
- Safety note: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. On skin contact, rinse with water; if it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
- Storage conditions: Store sealed in a cool, dry, ventilated place, away from heat, sparks and open flames, at room temperature.
- Packaging: 25 kg drums, 200 kg drums.
- Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How compatible is Toynol FS-680 with nonionic and anionic systems?
A: As a nonionic surfactant, Toynol FS-680 is compatible with most nonionic and anionic systems. Given the complexity of formulations, however, we recommend a small-scale compatibility test before use.
Q: Is the product stable under high-temperature conditions?
A: Yes. The product has a cloud point above 100 °C and remains highly stable at elevated temperatures, making it suitable for high-temperature production processes.
Q: Is this product readily biodegradable and compliant with environmental requirements?
A: Toynol FS-680 is free of APEO and other restricted substances and aligns with environmental regulatory trends. For specific biodegradability data, please refer to the safety data sheet (SDS) we provide or contact our technical support.
Q: How do I adjust the dosage for my specific formulation?
A: The optimal dosage depends on your specific system (e.g., pH, electrolyte concentration, other additives). We recommend starting from the lower end of the recommended dosage and running a dose-response study to determine the optimal approach. Our technical support team can provide recommendations.
