Vanconol® MGR-83 Magnesium Alloy Corrosion Inhibitor

Vanconol® MGR-83 Magnesium Alloy Corrosion Inhibitor

Core Positioning

This document is designed for B2B decision-makers including R&D engineers, formulators, and procurement managers, providing comprehensive technical information on Vanconol® MGR-83 magnesium alloy corrosion inhibitor.

Product Overview

Vanconol® MGR-83 is a high-performance, chromium-free, water-based, low-VOC environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor developed specifically for magnesium alloys. It is an organic composite formulation,

validated through coolant simulation system evaluations, capable of rapidly forming a dense protective film on magnesium alloy surfaces, effectively inhibiting electrochemical corrosion of magnesium alloys in harsh environments such as humid conditions, salt spray, and acidic media,

significantly extending the service life of magnesium alloy components while reducing maintenance costs.

Key Advantages & Performance Characteristics

High corrosion inhibition efficiency: At a constant temperature of 88°C, with 0.6% inhibitor addition in a 50% ethylene glycol aqueous solution, corrosion testing on AZ91D magnesium alloy showed: the substrate surface remained bright and unchanged after 3 days of testing. After 7 days, slight dulling and darkening were observed on the surface.

Excellent environmental compatibility and regulatory compliance: This product does not contain substances of very high concern (SVHC) under the EU REACH regulation, offering a more environmentally friendly and safer profile.

Primary Application Areas

This product can be widely applied in all fields requiring effective corrosion protection for magnesium alloy and multi-metal equipment:

Automotive Industry Applications: Suitable for corrosion inhibition during machining of magnesium alloy wheels, engine blocks, cooling system piping, radiator magnesium alloy components, body structural parts, and other automotive workpieces.

3C Electronics Applications: Used as corrosion inhibition during cleaning and machining of magnesium alloy components in 3C electronics.

Aerospace Applications: Suitable for surface treatment of equipment components.

Other Applications: Can be used for surface protection of magnesium alloy materials in other environmentally demanding applications.

Usage and Recommendations

Dosing Method: This product is a water-soluble liquid that can be added directly to the system or diluted and fed continuously and accurately via a metering pump.

Recommended Dosage: The recommended addition level in commercial form is 0.5-1%. The optimal dosage should be determined through dose-response screening studies.

Compatibility: This product is compatible with most commonly used scale inhibitors, dispersants, and biocides/algicides in compounding. However, compatibility testing is recommended prior to formulating composite products to ensure no precipitation occurs.

Packaging, Storage, and Safety

Packaging: Available in 25 kg and 200 kg plastic drums, or customized packaging upon request.

Storage: Store sealed in a cool, well-ventilated, dry area, protected from direct sunlight. This product is hygroscopic; reseal promptly after opening.

Shelf Life: 12 months.
