Toynol® Superwet-360 Nonionic Surfactant
Toynol® Superwet-360 High-Efficiency Nonionic Surfactant
Abstract
Toynol® Superwet-360 is a gemini-type nonionic surfactant based on an acetylenic diol polyether structure, developed to address core issues such as dynamic wetting, cratering, leveling, and foam control in waterborne systems (such as coatings, printing inks, and adhesives). Its main functions are to powerfully lower dynamic and static surface tension (surface tension as low as 25.2 dyn/cm in a 0.1% aqueous solution), provide excellent foam-control performance, and promote flow and leveling. Compared with conventional surfactants, it offers outstanding cost-effectiveness and environmental safety (APEO-free), making it a suitable option for applications with demanding wetting and process-efficiency requirements, such as waterborne industrial coatings, photovoltaic coolants, and high-speed printing inks.

Main Features and Advantages
- Efficient wetting: Rapidly and effectively lowers the dynamic and static surface tension of waterborne systems, readily solving wetting problems on low-energy surfaces (e.g., plastic, metal) and preventing cratering.
- Excellent foam control: Provides powerful wetting along with good foam-control capability, helping reduce process defects.
- Environmentally friendly and safe: The product is free of APEO and other hazardous substances and complies with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
- Process compatibility: Compatible with most waterborne resin systems; promotes coating leveling and meets high-speed application requirements.
Recommended Application Fields
- Waterborne industrial coatings: Used in automotive coatings, industrial machinery coatings, coil coatings, etc.; effectively resolves cratering, fisheyes, and poor leveling caused by insufficient wetting during spray and roller coating.
- Photovoltaic coolant: As a key wetting component, improves the spreadability and contact efficiency of the coolant on photovoltaic panel surfaces while helping control foam.
- Waterborne printing inks and overprint varnishes: Suitable for high-speed printing processes such as flexographic and gravure printing; ensures rapid ink spreading and avoids defects such as non-uniform printing and white spots.
- Inkjet inks: Markedly improves the wetting and flow of the ink inside the printhead, effectively reducing ink skipping and improving printing smoothness and reliability.
- Adhesives: Improves substrate wetting during coating for more uniform coating and fewer bubbles; suitable for high-speed coating lines.
- Metalworking fluids: As an additive, improves the wetting and penetration of the fluid on metal surfaces.
- Other fields: Such as leather finishing agents, ceramic glazes, and any other waterborne system requiring efficient wetting and foam control.
Usage and Recommended Dosage
Addition timing: Add before pigments, fillers, and other solid materials to aid wetting of solids and suppress foaming during mixing, or after the other surfactants and polymers to ensure full dissolution and dispersion.
Dilution: Can be pre-diluted with water as needed to aid uniform dispersion in the system.
Recommended dosage:
- Waterborne industrial coatings: 0.3%-0.5% of total formulation
- Photovoltaic coolant: 3%-5% of total formulation
- Inkjet inks: 0.5%-2% of total formulation
- Other fields: 0.3%-1% of total formulation
- Note: The specific optimal dosage should be determined by a dose-response study according to the actual system.
Safety and Storage
- Safety note: Wear appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles and gloves) during handling. Rinse with water on skin contact.
- Storage conditions: Store sealed in a cool, ventilated, dry place, away from heat, sparks and open flames. Room-temperature storage is recommended.
- Packaging: 25 kg drums, 200 kg drums, 1000 kg drums.
- Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under the specified storage conditions.
- Transport classification: (Compliant with GB/T 190-2009).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What specific coating defects is Superwet-360 mainly used to resolve?
A: This product is specifically used to resolve cratering (fisheyes), poor leveling, and orange peel caused by inadequate wetting. By powerfully lowering surface tension, it enables the coating or ink to spread rapidly on the substrate to form a uniform, level film.
Q: What advantages does this product offer in high-speed coating or printing processes?
A: Its ultra-low dynamic surface tension meets the extreme wetting-speed demands of high-speed coating/printing. It wets the substrate instantly, avoiding non-uniform coating, white spots, and striping caused by the wetting rate failing to keep up with line speed, thereby markedly improving productivity and yield.
Q: What should be noted when using Superwet-360 together with silicone defoamers?
A: Although it is compatible with most additives, pay attention to the addition sequence during formulation development. It is generally recommended to add the defoamer first, disperse it thoroughly, and then add the wetting agent, to avoid possible interactions that reduce effectiveness. The safest approach is to run a small-scale compatibility test.
Q: If the product solidifies or crystallizes, has it failed? How should it be handled?
A: No, it has not. This is a physical change at low temperature. Simply place the product in a warm environment (e.g., above 25 °C) or warm it slowly in a water bath and stir thoroughly until it returns to a homogeneous liquid; its performance will fully recover.
